I want to talk about discourse so be warned
Ok, so as usual, there's another anti-fujo discourse, but you already know what kind ( usual calling fujoshi misogynists and blah blah). I replied to an account I follow, which said that zoomers talk about fujoshi the same way 85-year-old Catholic women talk about video games and rock music. I completely agree because it's ridiculous how these anti-fujo zoomers act like fujoshi are Evil Women who are a detriment to society just because they're obsessed with gay anime boys.
I was just pointing out the hypocrisy of these anti-fujo kids. Most of their arguments against fujoshi always boil down to "they don’t make content about female characters" or "they don’t like female characters enough." I find this funny because, by their logic, shouldn’t they be nicer to straight men? But clearly, these people aren’t. They keep attacking straight men for liking female characters in the “wrong” way, lol. So it begs the question—why do they feel the need to whine at fujoshi, a type of fans that isn’t even receptive to female characters, to... make content for them?
And as usual, I got some stupid replies from strangers (already deleted by the OP lol)
Why yes! If you want content so badly and no one is making it, you HAVE to make it yourself or pay someone else (commission) to do it! It’s such basic common sense.
What baffles me is that they say, "the problem is finding female fans who like female characters and make content about them." This argument might have weight if they weren’t being total jackasses toward women who like male characters, acting like they’re some hidden Agent of Patriarchy.
I promise you, calling fujoshi or husbando girlies misogynistic women who center men will not suddenly make them create content about female characters or your mid-tier yuri ship.
Also, how is that a fujo’s responsibility? Or any other woman’s, for that matter? Does criticizing or mocking women who like male characters for being "misogynistic" or "male-centered" magically make them start caring about female characters? No.
The whole "telling people to make content about X doesn’t work! There’s some internalized prejudice!" mindset is so weird, ngl. As someone who likes underrated/minor characters and OTPs, I’ve never once thought that people who don’t make content about my faves secretly have some hidden prejudice. Like, sure, I might get frustrated or a bit salty about popular things overshadowing my favs and rant about it on my private account, but I don’t automatically assume people are misogynists, homophobes, or have some malicious ideology just because they’re not making content about my favorite characters/ships.
I feel like teens need to accept (or come to terms with the fact) that they like underrated/minor characters, OTPs, or niche genres that not a lot of people are into—and that’s okay. That doesn’t mean there’s some deep-seated internalized prejudice at play. Making convoluted arguments with therapy-speak will not make your fav stuff popular.
On another note, I muted any word containing "male-centric," "male-centered," or whatever because people who use those terms unironically are miserable. They also tend to be misogynistic toward other women, despite claiming they're "feminists." It really sucks that this term got diluted. In feminist theory, male-centered was supposed to refer to real-world women who prioritize men at the expense of other women. It was meant to describe situations like:
A mother prioritizing and favoring her son over her daughter, causing real issues.
A woman babying her abusive husband for cheating on her instead of being mad at him (but blaming the side chick instead).
A woman defending rapists by saying the female victim was "asking for it" because of what she was wearing.
Not some "fujoshi making fan content of their fictional gay anime boys in their free time to seek escapism after being overworked at a black company and dealing with a shitty boss."
Western himejo/yuri fans act like this and then wonder why most BL fans or husbando girlies don’t want to make content for their faves, lol.
Anyway, God Bless Fujoshi & hope they keep thriving.
