Century of Love wasn't bad but I think it could have been better. Meaning the story is good (even if not original) and the main characters were spot on. But I think they could have pushed a bit more on the confusion of San when he realized he desires Vee, a man, when his past love was instead a woman. Moreover I would have also put a little more real sex rather than wet dreams. But all the other aspect of the story is quite nice, the whole supporting characters and, even if limited, also the settings, the temple and the house were quite good. HEA. 1. The first day of the new store's soft open was a huge success. We didn't advertise it at all, but the store was very busy all day (only open from 10-4) and we made over three times as much as the first soft open day of the store that opened in December, so hopefully that is a sign that this store will be a success.

2. Look at Tuxie in his little house! He doesn't sleep here at night and doesn't ever seem to use it during the day, but sometimes he likes to go in there in the early morning between waking up and leaving wherever it is he sleeps at night and coming up to the porch for breakfast.

At least I wasn’t the only one who didn’t know what I was doing.

I'm poking around my thoughts the morning after finishing this, which is almost certainly way too soon, but I want to jot some things down before I move on to the next book. (I am reading the next book, so please know that I did in fact enjoy it! Just not as much as I was expecting to.) I haven't maybe fully cohered everything here, and there are some fairly massive things that play into my reaction, so I'm not really going to try to unpack it. Just, maybe, yeah. A list:

1. I would have enjoyed this more if it had not been hyped as really, really great. It's a tremendously enjoyable read. It is not a great one.

2. I had somehow gotten the impression that this was a humorous book, perhaps because what people quote are the misanthropic one liners. Perhaps also because of that with the series title, I was thinking that this was maybe a GLADos or HK-47 situation. It was... not that.

3. I think a lot of fans are vibing with a tremendously relatable neurodivergent POV narrator. (I did!) But I am having a bit of ick about both the neurodivergence and the aroace things going on here. And I think maybe my feelings about these things, as someone who is neurodivergent, aroace, and on the whole who frankly shares a lot of Murderbot's frustrations and its bafflements, is more about the fandom than about the books. I don't think Martha Wells did anything wrong; indeed I think she did a lot of things right. But I see a lot of people claiming representation here and under the circumstances that's a pretty big whoosh for me. I know we've been having the conversations about aspec and neurodiverse vibes from machines and non-human characters for a long time, but when actual legislation is being contemplated and passed with the express intent of harming us on both fronts, I guess I'm not really feeling like I want to have this conversation again right now.

Anyway, that's where I'm at this morning. Feeling complicated when I was expecting good clean fun. Yeah. Probably not the book's fault.

Secret Relationship is way darker than expected. I don't want to reveal much, but I would say this is more a thriller than a romance. The reason why I chose to see it is double: the actors are quite handsome, and it's an adaption from a manhwa, that usually are really romantic stories. Therefore the surprise when I realized the romance is some of background to the real story. Anyway if you want something of completely different, this is the choice. HEA. eating some pineapple pie. drinking green tea. I don't have a proper thing to put my tea bags in, so it's not as aromatic as it was when new, but it's warm and bitter and goes well with the pie. one of our dogs is sleeping near me. the breeze of the electric fan is making her ear twitch. I feel like I should put her on her pillow so she can lay on something softer than my bedframe, but she's going to get up and move back anyway. I don't blame her. the wood is cool and the gap between the slats lets the air circulate. it's partly why I sleep on it too instead of using my mattress.

If you had read the manga from where Depth of Field has been adapted, you would have had the spoiler that this is not a sexy drama, on the contrary of most BL drama adapted from a yaoi manga. Depth of Field is more celebral, more about the inner struggle of Hayakawa Shuichiro (that sincerely I really don't understand, I think this is really a Japanese thing) than about the relationship between him and Konno Ryohei. Sure, in the very first episode, Hayakawa comes out like a sexually free spirit, having sex out of pleasure more than love, but that is just the first impact and then the story moves on another level. I would say this is a really good production if you think to Japanese standard: the two main characters are ordinary guys, in look and attitude, and I think they actually behave like their age asks. See Your Love is a mix of good and bad: good the chemistry between the two main characters, little guilty pleasure the different heights, and the snapshot of Zi Xiang being on tiptoe to be able to kiss Shao Peng; I love these two and their relationship is sweet and nice, a little bit sexy but not too much; I think they also respected the deciption of a deef man in Shao Peng. Bad: everything related to Zi Xiang's family, and it's quite absurb and unrealistic. Lucky us, it's not the main topic of the story, so you can just skip those part. I think they also wanted to be cute but a little more sexy in the side story of Cheng Feng Jie and Wang Xin Jia, but actually I found it superfluous: nice but not needed. HEA. You can see it on GagaOOLala, IQIYI, Viki, WeTV (basically everywhere!). Heat Level: 4/6.

Guilty pleasure

yesterday I was having a night where nothing was fitting my taste and so I started this Taiwanese drama with only 2 episodes, Secret Lover, knowing nothing about it aside the main characters where cute... well the fact that it was adapted from a manga title "There's no way we're done after cumming!" should have given me an hint... anyway, the drama adaptation is way more chaste than the manga, but it's very sexy. We will see how it goes on, for now, it is, as I said, a guilty pleasure. You can see it on GagaOOLala. Heat Level: 5/6.

Sometimes when I get a free game off my father's Amazon Prime, it just sits in my library for a while as I try to convince myself it might not be shit. I feel oddly proud of myself when I try one and confirm it's shit after all. Latest is Stray Gods, a musical game that is absolutely not up to the task of being a musical. The one before that was South of the Circle.

1. Last day of relative calm before the new store opening. Tomorrow and Friday is the soft open and then Saturday and Sunday are grand opening weekend with a ton of events planned. I'm going to have to help out at least some of the day all four days, but I'm planning to take Monday off to recover.
