michifugu: Dorija ikemen face (Uma Musume - Dream Journey)
Finally, I’m feeling more in the mood to write again! So now I’ll continue the challenge, and this time it’s about the continuation of my previous entries—where I talked about my first exposure to gay content. If you read those, you might be wondering: if my experience with BL wasn’t that great, how did I end up becoming a massive fujoshi anyway?

Well, this series is the culprit—LOL.

Alright, we’re on the 3rd week of Fannish/Fandom 50, and this time I’ll talk about my first exposure to that ~gay~ stuff in animanga.

Warning: there's homophobia subject )
michifugu: anon happy go lucky (BanG Dream | MyGO - Chihaya Anon)
I wanted to do Fannish 50 weeks because I happened to see a mutual I follow doing this, so it interested me! This is my first time doing something like this, so please go easy on me, LOL!
I don’t have any set themes and will just roll with it, depending on my mood. But I will try!

For the first post, I wanted to talk about my first fandom, Shugo Chara. You guys probably already know this series from my FAQ, but this series is very important for my childhood because it’s probably the series where I first interacted with “fandom” stuff and made transformative works.

I’ve been an anime and manga fan since I was a child, at the tender age of 5, when I watched Minky Momo and Hachi the Bee on local TV channels. The first manga I read was Doraemon. Since then, I continued to follow a lot of anime and manga like Sailor Moon, Detective Conan, Tokyo Mew Mew, One Piece, buying Nakayoshi magazine, Cardcaptor Sakura, etc. But because I was young at that time and didn’t have friends to share interests with, I had no idea what a fandom was. Not to mention, I hadn’t been exposed to the internet at that time because I believe back then you had to buy a modem, and my family wasn’t familiar with it. That was until my late father bought us a modem because I think my older sister and brother asked him to. My brother and sister had to go to net cafes to use computers and the internet (good times—I wasn’t allowed though, because I was too young, lol).

So, this marked my first exposure to the internet, I believe at age 8-9. My first social media platforms were Friendster and Myspace because that’s what was the rage back then, until Facebook took off in my country and everyone went crazy making Facebook accounts. So naturally, I did too.
On Facebook, I joined otaku and animanga groups where a lot of Indonesian anime fans gathered. I befriended a lot of people there, and then I found that my FB home had this cute pink anime girl character, and a lot of young otaku girls talked about it. I asked what the title was, and apparently, it’s Shugo Chara.

I found out that the series was serialized in Nakayoshi magazine, but because Nakayoshi was so expensive, lol, there was no way I could ask my dad to buy it. However, I was lucky to find that my local bookstore sold the manga! I bought it, I believe two volumes, and I was immediately super into it.
Amu was very cool, and her fashion just hit hard for a lot of young girls back then. We all wanted to wear similar clothes like her!

And then I joined Shugo Chara groups on Facebook, where I met a lot of new people. This is where I was first exposed to fannish activities. We all gushed about the characters (Ikuto was so popular back then) and even drew fanart of it. Honestly, my younger self was overwhelmed and felt the need to contribute! So I started posting art, even though it was bad, haha. And then there was an Indonesian Shugo Chara-only forum, so I joined and found out there was a girl my age from the same school who also joined! From there, we became friends, even though there were problems and fights because we were idiot children back then. But I’m still grateful to her because she taught me how to draw, and I learned a lot about other anime and manga series beyond what I knew from TV and bookstores. I also found out about hentai from her, btw, lol. And through Shugo Chara, I also learned about Hetalia’s existence, but I had no idea what it was because I was dumb. Still, it’s also one of the important series that shaped my fandom activity and experiences. But that’s another story, and someday I’ll post about it.

Anyway, I’m thankful for Shugo Chara for introducing me to fandom, and I’m so glad I did because it was my first fandom experience where most of the community was young girls. I’m so glad my first fandom was surrounded by people my age back then. It was also a gateway for the path of my otakudom—thanks to it, I know what Hetalia and Vocaloid are, hahaha.

Here's some venting that I posted on bsky/twitter :

it's funny to me how tumblr of all PLACES are the only one where you can meaningful queer analysis of mahoako of all things.

yes, on fucking tumblr.

legit that site seems the only place that embraces mahoako & see the series on postivies outlook, twitter would never

if people want more coomer game to be made, you guys should support niche mid-small budget ecchi otaku games instead clinging to big mainstream JRPG dev that was backed by big publisher.

I think you shouldn't put too much stock on ecchi stuff on japanese console games these days.

Like, CERO has been getting more anal about depiction of violence & sexuality. on top overseas platform is just pretty unfair to JP games most of the time. manga, gacha & anime is unironically a place where ecchi can thriving rn.

it's fucking suck now gacha are the only gaming medium where we get most anime coomer stuff. truly tragedy.

sorry I am gacha/soshage hater lol

Found this post about CERO

And people still don't believe me when I said CERO is more Draconian lol. People are too culture war-brained & think all evil censorship is from west, while Japan has actual censorship that's mandated by fucking law. Even their goddamn porn media were still fucking censored.

Btw CERO just recently banned panty shots or camera angle that show panties for teen rated games cmiiw. It's why most jrpg girls nowadays wear spats.

I feel like Ishihara era seems to be the catalysts that CERO become stricter, puritan and demanding. Just my opinion.

People who think it bcus le evil woke forcing CERO are fucking idiot because even before culture war become big they've been getting stricter. Like i remember seeing a couple of JP devs complain about CERO strictness about violence/sexuality depictions in the 2010s.

They're just getting bolder in the 2020s now.

Like CERO brand of puritanism doesn't feel like puritan wokies but more of typical conservative Japanese boomers who despise otakus & sex in media.

Anyway, fuck rating boards, they're true Agent of Censorships.

I saw a post about how people shouldn't trust youtuber review on game too much & I am fucking agree, especially on this post

it is just like what happen to FE Engage. A lot of youtubers act like that games kill the whole franchise & the worst shit ever created. Then you play the game, it's good & fun. Sure, it's very flawed & story is mediocre, but it's not fucking bad like what youtuber screaming. Also, Engage has better replayability compared to 3H & the story doesn't make me mad because of 3H horrendeus pacing.

Also, being a trilingual is truly a nightmare. Ever since I study french, I feel my linguistic skill is getting more terrible. My Indonesian and english is sucked

I need more podcasts about people talk about Japanese game that genuinely appreciate them & it's anime trope.

It's just annoying how most games podcast I listen always being Weird about jrpg or having ''toned down'' Phil Fish-tier opinion.

''this jrpg is good because there's no cringey anime trope'' shut the fuck up!

I never trust people opinion on JRPGs or japanese games if they tried to dismiss anime/otaku trope. fuck that shit.

So saw this post about idiot execs, making a ''survey'' that game devs (read: AAA devs) wanted to know what teen what and according to their survey 75% teen don't want a romance game and want more friendships (lol).

Absolute baffling, Even if it's that true, how come their conclusion is to NOT include romance options to not alienate the remaining 25% audiences??

Surely that survey is legit & valid, not some execs making up shit.

I swear exec are truly braindead.

Romance & Friendship element in the game can fucking coexist, most Japanese games are fucking doing it.

With how dogshit current social media climate are.

Normalize writing your intrusive thoughts or /any/ controversial opinion on blogging site.

Please I beg you make a blog, make dreamwidth/bearblog/neocities.

Those sites are ''semi'' dead w/ no shitty algorithm -that put your posts outside your circle/audiences who will mad/ratio/dogpile your post because they don't fucking get your sense of humor/personality-, nobody will mad seeing your idiot takes there.

At worst, if someone disagrees with your post they probably leave a shit comment, but, the chances of getting dogpiled a la Twitter are low.

You’re basically screaming into the void & some people do ''listen'' to your screaming, but they don't give a fuck!

Blogging or journaling also helps to articulate your thoughts, forming your opinion coherently, and regulate your emotion better.

tl;dr start blogging NOW

legit, after I finally go back to blogging (I made 2–3 blogs for different purposes) it does help me a lot & feels therapeutic.

I can express myself better w/o the baggage of horde people that's outside my circle dogpiling me because they're not my fucking audience/mutuals who know me.

So far, I recommend dreamwidth if you miss old-school livejournal-style blog!

It has a lot of feature that make it easier for people to interact w/ you. Also, some socmed-like feature w/ customizing ur layout, icon, tag, etc.

Bearblog is also a good alternative if you want more ''secluded'' vibe, also has very simple & minimalistic design. Basically, if you're just there for ''pure'' blogging reasons.

I haven't used it, but according to my friends it much better alternative compared to neocities. Don't use wordpress/blogspot/ big corpo hosted site because they will feed your content to AI or sell your data.

Oke this is based on my post from tumblr, but I want to vent about it so bad and decided to share it here.

I'm sure im not the only crazy enough who think this recent wave of online discourse on Twitter of ''why do lesbian likes yaoi or become fujoshi?'' are just repackaged Gold Star Lesbian right.....

Like, this discourse is always framed with statements like, ''I'm genuinely asking, why do lesbians become fujoshi? Girl, what are you getting out of watching 2 men having homosexual sex?'' and then it veers into Gold Star lesbian rhetoric or polilez Kool-Aid, attempting to ''question'' lesbian fujoshi sexuality and whether they are 'true lesbians' or 'not lesbian enough.' This is often justified, attacking lesbian fujoshi with the excuse that they are ''centering their sexuality or interests around men'' (wtf?)

michifugu: Amiya Witch Skin (Arknights - Amiya)

Since i’m always rambling about this stuff on both my Tumblr and private account. It’s honestly a mess, and I’ve been contemplating whether or not to write this because, frankly, I don’t want to invite more discourse. But after giving it some thought, I decided I wanted to write it, as I feel that by doing so, I can better articulate my thoughts on this subject. I’m definitely not the only one who feels this way. Without further ado, let’s dive into the topic.

If you’re active on Twitter, you’re probably familiar with the discourse surrounding anti-fujoshi sentiment and fangirls who love male characters/husbandos (I’ll refer to them as Yumejoshi for convenience). This discourse often emphasizes that both Fujos and Yumes exhibit internalized misogyny because they ‘favor’ or center their interests around fictional male characters.
